1. Essential cookies and local storage
These are required for the site to function and cannot be switched off. They store your authentication session, protect form submissions, keep exam attempts consistent between page loads, and remember your cookie choice so we do not ask again on every visit. Without them you cannot sign in or sit an exam.
2. Preference storage
We store small preference values in your browser — such as dismissed notifications and banners — so the interface behaves consistently. These are set only after you have used the related feature.
3. Analytics cookies
Where analytics is enabled, we use it only to understand aggregate traffic — which pages are visited, from which country, and where errors occur. Analytics cookies are set only if you accept non-essential cookies in the consent banner. We do not use analytics data to build advertising profiles.
4. Marketing cookies
SecByte does not currently set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies on secbyte.org. If that changes, this page and the consent banner will be updated before any such cookie is set.
5. Third-party cookies
When you pay, our payment service provider may set cookies on its own checkout pages to complete the transaction and detect fraud. Those cookies are governed by the provider's own cookie and privacy notices. Video or document embeds, where used in course material, may also set cookies from the hosting provider.
6. Managing your choice
- Use the cookie banner to accept or reject non-essential cookies. Your choice is stored in your browser.
- Clearing your browser's site data for secbyte.org resets the choice and shows the banner again.
- Your browser settings can block or delete cookies entirely; blocking essential cookies will break sign-in.
